stretching the AWBP-1w red line

Time for another use-test of the Audio Wireless AWBP-1W Transmitter Power Booster.

I recently did a job based in a goods warehouse, which had a small cooking studio within it. We shot in the studio, & I had my mixer based just outside it.

So, initially I had some issues getting a stable coms signal to my AS Pierluigi Papaiz whom was based in the cooking studio, along with a separate interview room at front end of the space, which I was surprised by, but we put it down to the massive roller security barricade at the front of the warehouse, upon a little investigation though it was discovered that the SMA cable connecting that coms Tx was actually broken (snapped off), which then made sense of the failing range from the booster. After a quick swap around for a new cable, the coms range went from short range to entirely uninterrupted.

I was curious though as to it’s true length, so asked a shadow we had in for the day to go for a walk outside the actual building & see just how far they could go. I was very surprised when they returned & reported back, so when a clear break between setups allowed me to step off for 5 minutes, I grabbed an LD Systems MEI 1000 G2 & went for a walk myself.

To say I was pleasantly surprised is to say the least.

In the picture below, you have 2 colours, Yellow is how far I got before dropouts began, & red was the limit I reached with total signal loss. A point to bare in mind is that the mixer is deep inside the warehouse, with a full double-lane metal shutter down (green line), which would certainly block a good amount of signal.

The booster has very much become a deeply integrated part of my main mixer setup now, & continues to impress me, & expand the coms flexibility for my team.
